1. The Problem
The Indian resale market for enthusiast products — high-end audio, mechanical keyboards, PC components, cameras — operates almost entirely on trust proxies. WhatsApp groups, Facebook communities, and Reddit threads serve as de facto marketplaces where transactions worth tens of thousands of rupees happen based on reputation threads and blurry photographs.
This system works until it doesn't. When a buyer receives a DAC with a dead channel, or a GPU that was previously used for cryptocurrency mining and is thermally compromised, there is no recourse. The seller disappears. The group admin can't help. The money is gone.
Existing platforms (OLX, Cashify, marketplaces on e-commerce sites) address this with seller ratings and listing fees, but they share a fundamental limitation: they never physically verify the product. A five-star seller rating is a trust proxy. It is not trust.
2. Trust Architecture
StockMyNiche replaces trust proxies with trust infrastructure. The core insight is that trust in high-value resale requires three things that no existing Indian platform provides simultaneously:
- ●Physical verification — someone qualified must handle, test, and document the product before the buyer commits money.
- ●Controlled funds flow — money must be held in escrow, released only after delivery confirmation, with automated dispute triggers.
- ●Distributed expertise — verification must be performed by domain specialists, not generalist warehouse workers running checklists they don't understand.
The result is a three-layer architecture: a distributed merchant network that performs physical verification, a platform layer that manages escrow and logistics, and a transparency layer that publishes operational metrics.
3. Verification Process
When a seller lists a product on StockMyNiche, the system routes it to the nearest qualified merchant based on product category and location. The seller ships (or hand-delivers) the product to the merchant.
The merchant performs a standardized verification protocol specific to the product category. For audio equipment, this includes driver testing, frequency response measurement, cable continuity checks, and cosmetic grading. For PC components, it includes stress testing, thermal monitoring, and component authenticity verification.
All findings are documented with timestamped photographs and uploaded to the platform. The verification report becomes part of the product listing, visible to potential buyers. If the product fails verification, the transaction is cancelled, and the product is returned to the seller.
4. Merchant Model
Merchants are independent operators selected for domain expertise, physical workspace availability, and geographic coverage. They are not employees. They are not contractors. They are trusted nodes in a distributed verification network.
Each merchant is certified for specific product categories through a training and testing process. They maintain their own equipment, workspace, and operational schedule. The platform provides incoming verification requests, standardized protocols, packaging materials, and shipping integrations.
Merchants earn per-verification fees based on product category and complexity, ranging from ₹200 for simple inspections to ₹800 for complex multi-hour hardware testing. Payments are processed weekly via direct bank transfer.
5. Escrow System
All buyer payments flow through the StockMyNiche escrow system. When a buyer commits to a purchase, funds are captured and held by the platform. They are not transferred to the seller until:
- ●The product has been verified by a certified merchant
- ●The product has been shipped with tracking
- ●The buyer has confirmed receipt (or the 7-day acceptance window has elapsed without dispute)
If a dispute is raised during the acceptance window, funds remain in escrow until resolution. The platform reviews the merchant's verification report, shipping documentation, and the buyer's claim to reach a resolution within 48 hours.
6. Fee Structure
StockMyNiche charges a platform fee on completed transactions. This fee covers escrow management, merchant network operations, dispute resolution, platform development, and logistics coordination.
